Namjune Paik

Namjune Paik (1932–2006) is regarded as the founder of video art, integrating television and technological media into fine art and shaping the trajectory of contemporary art through provocative, boundary-crossing works such as "TV Buddha." Educated in art history at the University of Tokyo, he later taught at institutions including the Düsseldorf Art Academy and Ewha Womans University. A Fluxus member and prolific performance artist before his video work, he received the Golden Lion at the 45th Venice Biennale in 1993 and was named one of Time's Asian Heroes in 2006.
