Asao Kawahara
아사오 카와하라
Asao Kawahara (b. 1949, Tokyo) paints deep, tranquil worlds detached from any sense of life or time — clear, mysterious spaces that feel like the beginning of something, akin to the metaphysical stillness of Giorgio de Chirico and Carlo Carrà. He left Japan in his twenties and now lives in Italy. His solo exhibitions have been held repeatedly at Gallery Tsubaki (2019, 2011, 2009, 2007) and Gallery Morita (2006, 2005), and he exhibited at Mitsukoshi Department Store, Ginza, in 1994.
