Lee Dong Yeop Solo Exhibition: The Uncanny Organism

Drawing on Freud's notion of the "uncanny," these paintings depict forms that read as human bodies from a distance but reveal themselves, on closer inspection, as mutations or organisms that have lost their function — an exploration of the body as a complex biological organism in constant flux, and of the boundary between the visible and the invisible, the conscious and the unconscious.
