Hwang Da-yeon Solo Exhibition

Zygmunt Bauman describes contemporary society as liquid — formless, ever-flowing, lightly crossing boundaries, characterized by fluidity, flexibility, and resilience. This "liquid modernity" is our here and now. Contemporary society discards and acquires goods ever faster, and the more one keeps pace, the more symbolic capital one is seen to gain. We have gained freedom, yet individuals sustain a hunger that is never fully satisfied. The artist's paradise is born from this longing, and by telling the fiction of paradise, she paints a facet of contemporary society as a world called paradise.

Her paradise appears as a space filled only with traces of human presence. The artist remembers the weather, time, wind, and scent of that day. Paradise is a real place, one where the artist brings ideal nature into physical space, adding personal memory and imagination.

Hwang Da-yeon studied painting at Hongik University's College of Fine Arts, and mainly paints paradise as a reflection of contemporary society, delivering the wonder and calm that vast nature offers today's people.
