Jean-Marie Haessle

Jean-Marie Haessle is a French-born painter who spent many years working in New York's SoHo, developing gestural, non-objective abstractions rooted in French modernism and American Abstract Expressionism. Using color applied through tubes of his own making, his richly textured, all-over compositions build layered surfaces influenced early on by Van Gogh, Dubuffet, and CoBrA, and later by Color Field painters such as Frankenthaler, Louis, Olitski, and Poons. His work has been shown at venues including Kips Gallery and Hillwood Art Museum in New York, David Richard Contemporary in Santa Fe, and Soohoh Gallery in Korea.
