Seo Yu-young Solo Exhibition: We Are Crossing a New River

As May came and the world turned green with fresh foliage, our society began, one step at a time, returning to life before the pandemic — as if the past two years had never happened. In the artist's recent work, the trapezoidal roof, replacing the triangular roof she once insisted on, appears as an expression of the new-normal era brought on by the pandemic — sturdier and more stable than the sharp, resolute triangle, better suited to expressing the effort of people striving to adapt to a new flow of the times. Where earlier work centered on the themes of "standing alone" and "relations with others," this exhibition gives greater weight to the story of "us," widening its view from the accumulated everyday of past and present to the theme of a "shared future."
