Jang Bo-yun Solo Exhibition: 'Black Veil: This Tale Is Mine As Well'

Jang Bo-yun works with photographic imagery to represent memory and history in various ways. Early in her practice she was drawn to the medium of photography and the meaning of representation; later she turned her attention to the sense of loss that photographic images carry.

The imitation-leather covers of someone's two old photo albums bear the full trace of passing years. Each time the albums are opened, crumbling fragments of leather scatter like powder across the table; the surface peels and cracks further, and what once protected the albums and the photographs within now stands as a material remnant, revealing the erosion of time and memory.

We live in an age of loss — loss of god, of center, of being, of home. Even nature is not exempt. Yet art can call back the lost archetype within us, holding the power to restore meaning to a fractured life. Through this exhibition — a story that belongs to all of us living through an age of loss — we invite you to think about loss and life with Jang Bo-yun's solo exhibition, "Black Veil: This Tale Is Mine As Well."
