Julian Opie

Julian Opie (b. 1958, London) is a leading figure of Britain's "New Sculpture" movement, known for his instantly recognizable style of bold outlines and flat, simplified color. Rooted in British Pop Art yet shaped by Minimalism, his work distills the everyday urban landscape—most famously the act of walking—into universal imagery that prompts viewers to reconsider their own presence and movement in space. He studied at Goldsmiths College, London (1983), and has exhibited widely at institutions including the National Portrait Gallery London, National Gallery of Victoria, and Lisson Gallery.
