Kim Taewon

Kim Taewon is a Korean lacquer painter who studied at the Catholic University of Korea and earned a master's degree (S.T.B.S.) from the Catholic University of Paris before further study at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Fascinated by Korea's lacquer tradition dating back to the 3rd century BCE, he combines durable Asian lacquer with Western painting techniques on supports ranging from wood and cloth to hanji, leather, and bamboo, using the theme of "life" to render the human figure in vivid natural colors. He has held solo exhibitions at Gallery One and Insa Art Center in Seoul and participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs including KIAF and SOAF.
